Sedation Dentistry

Dental hygienist and patientFear of the dentist is a real phobia that many suffer from. It is so real, in fact, that it has its own name: dentophobia.

At Bacsa Family Dental and Implant Center, we understand that dental procedures can be scary and hugely intimidating. That’s why we offer several options for sedation dentistry.

Sedation dentistry is similar to outpatient procedures. Sedation levels can also be adjusted as needed during your procedure to ensure that you remain comfortable throughout the entirety of your appointment. In most cases, you can complete all of your dental work in just a single visit!

With little to no memory of the procedure, you can relax and enjoy a pain-free, anxiety-free experience in our office. You will enjoy a heightened state of relaxation, making your appointment feel dream-like.

You’ll think your appointment lasted just minutes instead of hours!

As the leading sedation dentist in Indianapolis, Dr. Tim Bacsa brings decades of experience to his practice. He is highly trained in the latest studies, techniques, and sedatives available today to ensure your utmost safety and security. Our patient support team will also work with you to maximize your insurance benefits or find an affordable payment plan, so you can have the care you need while still keeping your costs low.

Frequently Asked Questions about Sedation Dentistry

What is the difference between sedation and general anesthesia?

Sedation dentistry is different from general anesthesia in several ways.

You can breathe on your own with no intubation or additional support necessary. It’s also safer than full anesthesia because your blood pressure and heart rate remain unaffected.

Consciousness gradually returns on its own after a short period.

What are my options for sedation at Bacsa Family Dental and Implant Center?

At Bacsa Family Dental and Implant Center, we offer several options to ensure your comfort throughout your procedure.

  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

A safe and mild gas that will enhance your comfort and reduce anxiety. The effects wear off in minutes, and no escort is required.

  • Oral Sedation

Simply take a pill, and almost immediately, you will feel the anxiety begin to diminish.

  • IV Sedation

We use an IV for quick and effective sedation that allows Dr. Bacsa greater control throughout longer or more in-depth procedures.

Who is a good candidate for sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is a fantastic solution for all different kinds of issues:

  • Long, complex dental procedures
  • High anxiety or fear
  • Pronounced gag reflex
  • Difficulty keeping your mouth open for extended periods
  • Physical disabilities
  • Mental impairments
  • Behavioral issues
  • Extremely sensitive teeth
  • Resistance to numbing materials
  • Allergies to numbing materials
  • Previous dental trauma

Do I need someone to come to my appointment with me?

Sedatives, though temporary, still can impair your judgment for a short time following your appointment. That’s why we require that you have someone drive you home from your procedure.

Sedation is just another way that we put your comfort first at Bacsa Family Dental and Implant Center.
