Crowns

Dental crown diagramWhen a large cavity has damaged the ongoing longevity of a tooth, a crown is recommended. Crowns are also used to restore the shape and size of chipped or damaged teeth. Crowns can be the perfect solution to easily replace a bad tooth with an artificial, completely natural-looking replacement. These little tooth-shaped caps mimic the look and fit of your real teeth for a flawless replacement that only enhances your natural smile.

When you have a cracked or broken tooth, the entire tooth often needs to be replaced to guarantee your future health. A crown attaches to your natural tooth or a dental implant to create a real-life replica of your tooth. This restores chewing function and contributes to your overall health.

At Bacsa Family Dental and Implant Center, we remain on the cutting edge of technology and dental development. That’s why we specialize in crowns with a clean, natural look that rivals the look of your real teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions about Crowns

Why do I need a crown?

There are many different uses and benefits to a dental crown.

You may be a good candidate if you experience any of these tooth ailments.

  • Your teeth are significantly discolored
  • Your teeth are misshapen and uneven
  • You have a cracked tooth that is splitting apart
  • Your tooth holds an especially large filling and could do with more support
  • Your entire tooth requires restoration

Crowns are a realistic replacement for your natural tooth and can be used with the support of a bridge or dental implant.

What is the process for my new crown?

It takes two visits to place a new crown. Your first visit is all about preparation. Dr. Bacsa will conduct an examination and take impressions to study the current state of your tooth. These impressions will be used to create your own custom crown that is specifically designed to shape the natural grooves and curves of your tooth. Dr. Bacsa will also give you a temporary crown that will provide your tooth with support until your permanent crown is ready to be placed at your second appointment.

How do I care for my dental crown?

One of the best parts about a crown is that it is durable, requiring no specific care beyond your normal daily hygiene habits. Simply maintain your regular daily brushing and flossing, and visit Dr. Bacsa for regular hygiene exams as part of your ongoing preventive care.

How long do crowns last?

Crowns are incredibly resilient and are designed to keep up with normal tooth function and structure. That means your crown can last up to 30 years with regular care.

However, there are some things you can do to extend the life of your crown. Practicing good hygiene habits and watching the types of foods you eat can keep your crown strong and secure while grinding your teeth and biting your nails are examples of harmful activities that can cause your crown to wear down much faster.

We’re happy to schedule a consultation with Dr. Bacsa so you can determine whether a crown is a right fit for you.
