CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography)
What is Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography?
This stands for Cone Beam Computed Tomography, often referred to as a “scan,” which is a leading standard of care in today’s dentistry. This is a special x-ray that shows a three-dimensional (3-D) image of the mouth and dental structure that you cannot obtain from another x-ray. These x-rays show nerve paths, soft tissues, and bone in the craniofacial region in a single scan. From that scan, your dentist can create a more predictable and precise treatment plan. This is a simple procedure that takes about 1 minute to perform. All you have to do is stand at the machine and it does the rest. This unit is extremely low radiation since it is digital. Our team of Dentists will often recommend having this CBCT for the following reasons:
- Planning for surgical removal of teeth
- Assessment for accurate Implant placement
- Evaluating sinus, jaw, nasal, and nerve cavities as it relates to treatment
- Determining how teeth are oriented into the bone
- Locating an origin of pathology or pain
- Analysis of Orthodontic treatment
- Evaluating reconstructive surgery needs
At Bacsa Family Dental and Implant Center, we use this state of the art technology to treat you at the highest and best level.
How should I prepare to have a CBCT taken?
It will be taken by a licensed Hygienist or X-ray certified Dental Assistant. They will guide you through the process, which takes about a minute to perform. The Hygienist or Dental Assistant will have you remove any earrings or posts you may have from the neck up, which would include any tongue or nose piercing items, any metal hair accessories, and any removable partials or dentures. You stand for the procedure, keep all articles of clothing on.
Will I have any after-effects?
No. This procedure is simple, there is no downtime afterward.
Does my insurance cover this procedure?
We will verify all available insurance benefits ahead of time and go over any out of pocket cost. We do our very best to make sure patients know ahead of time and are prepared for any out of pocket costs.
